Starting in 2023, the History of Education Society UK and European Educational Research Association Network 17 (Histories of Education) are organising an exchange scheme to support their members attending one another’s conferences. The aim of the exchange scheme is to facilitate and enhance connections between the two organisations, and their members. We strongly encourage HES members to take advantage of this scheme!

EERA Network 17 will offer one conference place (paying the registration fee) to a member of HES who has had a paper accepted by Network 17 for the European Conference of Educational Research 2023, which will take place in Glasgow, UK, 22-25 August 2023.  The HES UK will do the same for an EERA member from Network 17 for its annual conference in November 2023. Details of the ECER (and the application process and deadlines) are here. Network 17 has issued its own call for submissions. The deadline for ECER abstract submissions is 31 January 2023. The date for feedback on submissions is 1 April 2023.

The ECER place will be awarded to a HES-UK member who meets one or more of the following criteria. :

– emerging researchers (potentially in short supply of conference funding); and/or
– scholars belonging to a minority group (having one or more protected characteristic/s);
and/or
– colleagues with an international profile (having a migration background and/or having
a research focus demonstrably extending beyond the United Kingdom).

If you would like to apply for the ECER place, please submit the following to Dr Susannah Wright (Hon Secretary, HES Executive) at [email protected] by 23 April 2023:

1. Evidence of acceptance of your ECER paper (e.g. acceptance email);

2. Evidence of HES membership (eg membership invoice/membership  number)

3. A short covering note indicating how you meet one or more of the criteria noted above

Applications will be considered by a sub-group of the HES Executive, and decisions will be notified by 12 May 2023.
