University College London, 8-10 November 2019

The 2019 History of Education Society (UK) conference will be hosted by UCL’s International Centre for Historical Research in Education (ICHRE) at UCL.

The theme of the conference is ‘Education and the Life Course’, and the keynote speakers are as follows:

* John Holford (Robert Peers Professor of Adult Education, University of Nottingham)

* Sumita Mukherjee (Senior Lecturer in History, University of Bristol)

* William J. Reese (Carl F. Kaestle WARF Professor of Educational Policy Studies and History, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA)

* Stephanie Spencer (Professor of the History of Women’s Education, University of Winchester, and President of HES)

The History of Education Society (HES) UK would like to invite students to submit abstracts for the postgraduate panel at the 2019 annual conference. This panel is a longstanding feature of the HES conference, allowing new researchers to present a 10-minute paper on their current research. Papers in this session do not need to address the conference theme. Please submit a title and abstract (max. 200 words) to the HES postgraduate student representatives, Catherine Holloway and Ellie Simpson (C.Holloway.14@unimail.winchester.ac.uk/ E.Simpson.13@unimail.winchester.ac.uk) by 21 May 2019. Applicants will be notified by 30 June 2019.

Alternatively, postgraduate students are invited and encouraged to submit 20-minute papers that address the conference theme; these, if accepted, will be included in the main conference sessions. Please see the separate call for papers.

Student bursaries

A limited number of bursaries will be available, these will contribute towards the expense of attending the conference. Applications will be open to those presenting either full 20-minute papers or shorter 10-minute papers. Details of the bursaries and how to apply will be advertised at a later date.
